Are There Commercial Composting Facilities in Your Area?

Some people are lucky and have commercial composting facilities located near them. Composting is very time consuming and it requires a balance of all the necessary elements for it to work properly. If you do have commercial composting facilities near you, take some time to evaluate their operation to see if it meets your needs. Choose a facility that provides you with ample information on what they compost so that there is nothing that could have a negative impact on your soil when you add their compost to it.

Inquire as to whether they accept materials to be added to their compost heaps as well. Find out how long their piles have been composting. Most commercial composting facilities will be forthright in their information. Find out the nutrient content of the commercial composting compost. This requires a good understanding of the entire process. However, you should still be aware of its nutrient content. It may seem obvious, but the higher the organic matter, the better your compost will be.

To keep the material composting properly, it needs a mixture of air and moisture. The size of the particles will give you an idea of how well mixed the compost is. The size of the particles will also tell you long the materials have been composting. Commercial composting facilities should be able to answer all these questions for you. A benefit of the commercial composting facilities is that they have the space and time to properly mature it.

The more mature it is the more it is rich in nutrients. A properly aged heap is also easier to manage, as the particles should be much smaller. You can use compost, which is quite young but it will not have the same effect on your garden as an older batch. One final thought, if possible, have the pH level of the commercial compost checked. However, it is safe to say that most commercial facilities will provide you with good compost for your garden.
